NCSD Families,

Yesterday was a historic day for our school district. Thanks to the support of all of you and the Novi community, NCSD passed our 2025 Bond program! This will bring world-class facilities and opportunities to our children and help us continue our positive momentum. Thank you to each of you who helped provide feedback, talk about it with your neighbors, stay informed and ask great questions, and every little thing that was done to support this bond passage. We are truly blessed to be part of a community that is united in a vision of educational excellence, and we cannot thank you enough for all that you have done! 

Our construction and design partners, our staff, and our leadership team are excited and ready to get to work. As a school district, we want to bring you in and help you be part of this exciting program, so we will keep you well informed as things get started and we begin executing the plan. Again, we want to thank you with the most sincere gratitude, and we look forward to the exciting things to come!

Novi Community School District

SEPAC, the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee, recently honored six winners with Above & Beyond Awards, in recognition of their outstanding efforts, positive attitude and the impact make on our students with disabilities. 

Two students were recognized -- Colin Mutch of Orchard Hills and Julia Peck of Novi Meadows. 

Four staff members were also recognized -- ECEC teacher Nancy Montales, Meadows paraprofessional Johanna Werth, George Lemanski from Transportation and Speech Pathologist Abby Rea for ancillary staff. 

Over 100 students and staff members were nominated this year for the Above & Beyond Awards. 

Robby Heil, who recently earned a certificate of completion from the Novi Adult Transition Center, was featured on the June 10th broadcast of ABC World News Tonight with David Muir. 

Muir opened the #AmericaStrong update on Robby by referencing "the touchdown that moved us all."

World News Tonight had previously featured Robby when he was a Novi High senior, after a touchdown he scored in a Novi High football game went viral.  

Robby Heil's graduation from the Novi Adult Transition Center was featured on WXYZ-TV Detroit Monday night. 

NATC students are getting tremendous positive benefits from working with a resistance machine purchased through a Novi Educational Foundation classroom grant.

The resistance machine has assisted students in different ways, allowing students to push or pull in different modalities. The different uses allow for adaptability for NATC students. 

For one student, the sled provides vestibular input in the mornings, helping regulate them and set a positive tone for the day. This improved regulation has made a noticeable difference in the student's ability to engage effectively in both academic tasks and community activities.

Another student has been working on a schedule and routine, and implementing the machine has been beneficial for them in having healthy consistency throughout the day.

Another student interested in basketball outside of school uses the sled to help with strength and endurance. 

We spoke to Levi Nelson about how the resistance machine is benefiting students: 

How often do the NATC students use the sled?

"The sled is utilized daily for multiple students during PE time," Levi said. "Teachers are also encouraged to utilize it with their students throughout the day as a vestibular input for their students."

Why has this been a successful benefit as a grant, positive takeaways since this was added?

"This sled has benefited various students with different needs; by improving regulation, engaging effectively, creating a healthy consistency throughout the day, increasing strength and endurance, and giving our students more confidence in themselves."

Where did you get this idea for writing this grant?

"The NEF gave the Adapted PE program a grant a couple years ago for weighted medicine balls. These are wonderful for the students and used at many locations for lots of students throughout the district!  Looking at the benefit of these weighted medicine balls for our students, I wanted to think of something that would still give them the vestibular input for regulating. I was at the gym and saw one of these and thought it would be perfect for our students to be able to utilize with how durable, safe and adaptable it is for our students."
